archimarathon studio
Archimarathon STUDIO is a learning co working space and thinking room with active discussions and critical thinking for students in architecture and interior design.
It is not a course or a class. Learning is not scheduled or enforced.
Members have access to a shared thinking room where they work on their own projects and engage in discussion with others. Kevin is present and working alongside them, with critique emerging naturally through proximity.
Archimarathon STUDIO is open to students from a wide range of tertiary institutions. Places are limited each semester and membership is offered to those who value studio culture and self directed work, at only $19 a week.

who is it for?
Archimarathon STUDIO is for students in architecture and interior design who are serious about design and value studio culture. It is a place for students to work on their own university projects, think through ideas, and learn alongside others. The studio does not assign work or set briefs. Learning happens through shared discussion, observation, and working in the same space. Students are exposed to different ways of thinking, communicating, and approaching design, including how ideas are discussed and refined in professional practice. The studio offers a focused working environment where students can develop confidence, clarity, and direction through doing the work itself.
preparing students for the workplace
Architecture and design schools are not vocational training, yet the gap between students and professional practice continues to grow. This gap spans both technical skills, such as reading drawings, understanding scale, and interpreting plans and sections, and broader skills, including communication, teamwork, time management, and knowing how and when to ask questions.
Archimarathon STUDIO addresses this gap by exposing students to how ideas are discussed, tested, and refined in a studio environment. Rather than formal instruction, learning happens through proximity, observation, and conversation.
The studio is physically connected to the office of the multi award winning Austin Maynard Architects. This proximity allows students to learn through osmosis within a working practice environment and gain a clearer understanding of how design studios operate day to day.
our resources
Archimarathon STUDIO is a working studio environment designed to support focused work, discussion, and shared thinking. The studio is located in the heart of the Melbourne CBD, with easy access to public transport, shops, dining, and everyday amenities.
At the heart of the studio is the Magic Wall. A 4.8m x 2.6m magnetic whiteboard wall used for pin up discussions, projection of photos and videos, and drawing on or over projected images. Combined with Kevin’s extensive photo archive of buildings he has visited and wider online references, the wall acts as a shared surface for comparison, discussion, and visual thinking.
The studio includes a living room area for informal conversations or rest, a large communal table for collaborative work, and desks for individual work. These spaces are used flexibly throughout the day depending on how members choose to work. Additional resources includes:
24/7 studio access
High speed internet
SketchUp Pro license
Free coffee

hear more from the community
We had the pleasure of hosting Sydney content creator and architecture graduate, Alvin Zhu, at Archimarathon Studio. Alvin spent a day filming in the studio and sat down with Director Kevin Hui to discuss the program's establishment and its vision for supporting students. The feature also includes insights from studio members, sharing their experiences and reflections on being part of this unique community.
